Abstract

Burkitt Lymphoma a NON-Hodgkin’s type lymphoma and is aggressive but potential curable by chemotherapy. It is commonly seen in paediatric population and imaging features can lead the diagnosis of the entity.

Keywords

Burkitt Lymphoma; B-cell; Lymphoma

Introduction

Burkitt’s mostly affecting paediatric population is aggressive form of lymphoma is a B-cell lymphoma and non-Hodgkin type. The awareness with the imaging features which are quite specific can enable us to diagnose this potentially treatable though aggressive disease entity in early stage itself [1-3].

Case Report

We present a case of a 8 year old male child presenting with abdominal mass CECT images in (Figure 1) show involvement of lymph nodes in mesentery and retro peritoneum manifests as focal mass. There is diffuse thickening of the bowel with Ascites, peritoneal and mesenteric thickening seen as discrete or conglomerated masses. Diagnosis is Burkitt Lymphoma [4].

Discussion

Burkitt is aggressive form of lymphoma is a B-cell lymphoma and non-Hodgkin type. It is seen in young patients and abdominal type presents with abdominal or pelvicmass [1,5,6]. Key imaging diagnostic clues are:

  1. 1. Involvement of lymph nodes in mesentery and retroperitoneum manifests as focal mass.
  2. 2. Diffuse thickening of the bowel.
  3. 3. Ascites, peritoneal and mesenteric thickening seen as discrete or conglomerated masses.

Conclusion

Imaging can play important role in diagnosing this aggressive form of pediatric B-cell lymphoma and thus enable the start potentially curable chemotherapy at early stage.
